Becker Showcases Student Talent at PAX East

Becker College, ranked the 3rd best school in the world to study game design by The Princeton Review, will be showcasing student talent at PAX East 2019, from March 28 to 31 at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center. The theme of this year’s booth is “Past, Present, Future.” Drop by booth #10058 to play and experience our games, and see firsthand why Becker’s Master of Fine Arts in Interactive Media Design major ranks 11th worldwide by The Princeton Review.

Come Saturday, March 30th from noon to 4:00 p.m. and meet “ANTi”, internationally known, pro-player Jason Bates. Pick up a controllerBecker College at PAX East booth 10058 and test your skills against him on Super Smash Bros. and pick up some free Framerate swag.

In addition, Timothy Loew, general manager of Becker’s varsity esports program and executive director of MassDiGI, as well as Haley Jarosz, a Becker College games student, will talk about how to break into esports and how to take your team to the next level.

Prospective students can visit the booth to learn more about Becker’s newly launched Master of Fine Arts in Interactive Media and first-in-the-nation esports management bachelor’s degree. Members of the Admissions team will also be on-hand to answer questions and review application materials. Prospective and current students as well as alumni are welcome to join us each day of PAX between 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. for a special Becker Interactive Media Design Reunion at the booth.

Several games will be on display by our Interactive Media Design students. Here are some of the highlights:

The Stardust Mystery Series is a ten-episode learning game for kids in grades 4-8 to help them learn science – namely physics. Students travel back in time to follow the trail of stardust from the Big Bang, to the dinosaurs, to you! It’s produced in conjunction with Beamer LLC. Aligned with Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), it features a free single player preview game as well as a four player co-op mode. Development has been funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF).

HoloDefense is an augmented reality take on the classic tower defense genre. As a player, you will defend your base against approaching hordes. With the ability to walk around the playing field and view the game from any angle, each time you play will be a totally immersive experience. This game is an augmented reality/virtual reality (AR/VR) title utilizing the Microsoft Hololens with Faculty Advisor Amanda Theinert.

ReWired is a puzzle platformer that challenges you as a player as you go on an adventure in alien ruins. With four different wires, plenty of obstacles, and new ways to navigate the terrain, get ready to traverse and rewire this colorful and imaginative world. This game is a Greenlit title participating in the Microsoft Xbox Creators Partnership with Becker College with Faculty Advisor Terrasa Ulm.

Saol & Bas is a 2D puzzle game where you control two characters together, Saol, the spirit of life, and Bas, the spirit of death. Make use of both characters’ powers by switching between them in order to navigate the forest and find the source of the imbalance. This game is a Greenlit title participating in the Microsoft Xbox Creators Partnership with Becker College with Faculty Advisor Ezra Cove.

Seahorse Saga is role-playing game where you follow Tyro the Seahorse as he takes up Poseidon’s Trident and goes on an adventure to save Atlantis. Scout out Kelp Forest for danger in this alternative turn-based RPG.
