Health and Immunization Requirements

Student health record information is based on the Massachusetts Department of Public Health laws 105 CMR 220.000. The requirements and laws are designed to protect every individual that lives and works in our campus community from contracting vaccine-preventable diseases.

Below are the regulations that govern immunizations and any allowable exemptions:
Massachusetts School Immunization Requirements 2018-2019

New incoming and transfer students must submit all health information online into the Health Portal. Log in with your Becker username and password, then enter and upload all health, immunization, and insurance information as outlined below.

All health requirements must be completed and uploaded to the Health Portal by July 15 for incoming and transfer Fall students and December 15 for incoming and transfer Spring students.

Students who fail to submit required documentation by the deadline may be prohibited from attending classes, living on campus, participating in athletics, and may be subject to a $250 fine.

Requirements for new full-time students and all nursing and vet science students

  • Health history form: Electronic form completed in the Health Portal.
  • Physical exam: Physical form signed/dated by healthcare provider. Must be completed no earlier than one year before the first day of classes.
  • Tuberculosis Risk Assessment form: Electronic form completed in the Health Portal.
  • Graduate MHC students: 1 PPD skin test is required upon entry and then annually
  • Immunization record: Must be signed/dated by healthcare provider and include the following immunizations:
    • Hepatitis B vaccine: 3 doses or (+) positive Hepatitis B surface antibody titer is accepted in place of vaccines; upload lab report.
    • MMR vaccine: 2 doses or (+) positive Measles, Mumps, and Rubella titers are accepted in place of vaccines; upload lab reports.
    • Varicella (chicken pox) vaccine: 2 doses or (+) positive Varicella titer is accepted in place of vaccines; upload lab report.
    • Tdap: 1 dose within the past 10 years, then tetanus (Td) booster every ten years. (nursing students see below).
    • Meningococcal MCV4 (Menactra/Menveo/Menomune)  vaccine: 1 dose after age 16 or signed Meningitis waiver form is accepted in place of vaccine.

Additional requirements for nursing students (all credits)

  • Hepatitis B surface antibody titer: upload (+) positive lab report.
  • Tdap vaccine: All nursing students must have a current Tdap shot on record at all times, a tetanus (Td) booster shot is not accepted.
  • Annual seasonal flu vaccine
  • Tuberculosis requirement:
    • 2-Step PPD Test: two separate TB skin tests completed 1-4 weeks apart no earlier than six months before starting the program.
    • Annual PPD Test: one TB skin test completed annually throughout the duration of the program.
    • If PPD is positive: a negative chest x-ray (completed within five years) is required.

Additional requirements for vet science students (all credits)

  • Electronic forms: Veterinary Risk form and Waste Anesthetic Gases form completed in the Health Portal.
  • Rabies Requirement: Rabies vaccine (three doses) or signed electronic Rabies waiver form in the Health Portal.
  • Tuberculosis requirement:
    • One PPD skin test completed no earlier than six months before starting the program.
    • If PPD is positive: a negative chest x-ray (completed within five years) is required.

 

All students taking nine or more credits

Health insurance requirement: Enter in your current health insurance information and upload a picture of the front and back of your card in the Health Portal.
