When and where is Commencement?

The Commencement ceremony will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at the DCU Center in Worcester, MA. The graduate processional will begin promptly at 9:45.

Graduates need to be at the DCU to line up no later than 9:00 a.m. Students should enter Door 1 or Door 2 (on Major Taylor Blvd) and proceed to the exhibit halls in the convention center. Please look for Becker staff to direct you.

Family and Friends will enter through Doors 11, 12 and 13, which are located at the intersection of Major Taylor Boulevard and Foster Street. We recommend that all guests be in their seats inside the DCU by no later than 9:45 a.m.

When are the mandatory Commencement meetings?*

  • Monday, April 13, 2020 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. (nursing students should attend this meeting based on specific nursing schedules)
    • Worcester Campus, Health Science Building, Room 306/309
  • Tuesday, April 14, 2020 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
    • Worcester Campus, Barrett Multipurpose Room
  • Wednesday, April 15, 2020 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
    • Leicester Campus, Daniels Hall

All current students, with the exception of graduate students and undergraduate students in the School of Graduate & Professional Studies who plan on participating in the May 9th Commencement ceremony must attend one of the three commencement meetings. (The meeting should last approximately 45 minutes.) You will receive information on commencement events, student loan repayment options, and how to pick up your cap and gown.

What if I cannot attend a mandatory meeting?

Please email CASL@becker.edu to let them know. Students will be able to pick up their cap and gown at the Worcester bookstore, after all commencement meetings have happened. All students MUST complete the Senior Exit survey prior to receiving their cap and gown.

How do I order my cap and gown?

There is no need to order your cap and gown ahead of time. Cap and gowns will be available for pick-up during the mandatory Commencement meetings.

Where do I receive my honor tassel?

Students can pick up their honor tassel from the Registrar’s Office on the Worcester campus after April 13.

When will the honors convocation and grad finale be held?

All students who have achieved honors status at Commencement will be invited to the Honors Convocation to be held on the Leicester Campus of Becker College at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, May 8, followed by the Grad Finale, a reception for family and friends from 4:00-5:00 p.m. All graduating students, family, and friends are invited to Grad Finale.

How can I order a class ring?

When will we receive our tickets?

Tickets are not required for Commencement 2020. You will receive six invitations in the mail to hand out to family and friends. However, students are allowed to invite an unlimited number of guests to Commencement.

Where can we park? Is there handicap parking?

Parking prices vary depending upon the event and time spent in garage.
Accessible Parking spaces are located around the facility at designated areas. Daily parking rates are in effect.

Who do we contact if we need handicap seating?

On the advice of the DCU Center, guests with physical challenges can be dropped off at door #13 and will be assisted upon arrival by ushers to appropriate seating. Only specific requests for accommodating a family member in a wheelchair need to e-mail their request to sara.swillomuckian@becker.edu

When will I receive the Commencement programs?

Commencement programs will be distributed during the ceremony.

Will there be a photographer, or is there an area set aside where we can take photos?

A professional photographer has been hired for the Commencement ceremony; each graduate will be photographed receiving his or her diploma. Your family will receive information directly from the photographer about purchasing the photos. Please advise your guests that the aisles must be kept clear during the ceremony and no one, except for college personnel and the photographers who have been officially hired for this event, will be allowed near the stage. The ceremony will be videotaped and then posted on the College’s website sometime after the event, and a press release will be sent to your hometown newspaper.

Will there be flowers available to purchase?

Yes, flowers will be available for purchase. Please feel free to bring flowers for your graduate.

Do you have directions to the DCU Center?

Do you have a list of hotels and restaurants?

When will my son/daughter receive their diploma?

Diplomas will be mailed to the home address of the students who have completed all of their degree requirements and have no obligations to the college.

How will I know if I am graduating with honors?

Honors designations for recognition at Commencement are determined using the cumulative grade point average (CGPA) earned at the end of the semester prior to the last semester of enrollment before graduation (associate degree program – typically third semester of full-time enrollment; bachelor’s degree program – typically 7th semester of full-time enrollment). CGPA requirements for honors are not rounded.

Bachelor Candidates:

  • 3.50-3.69 Cum Laude
  • 3.70- 3.89 Magna Cum Laude
  • 3.9- 4.0 Summa Cum Laude

Associate Candidates

  • 3.50- 3.70 Honors
  • 3.70- 3.89 High Honors
  • 3.9- 4.0 Highest Honors
