Orientation & Transition Programs

The Office of Campus Activities & Student Leadership oversees the College’s orientation and transition programs for incoming first year and transfer students.

First Year Students

Orientation and Transition programs for First Year Students is a multi-step process, beginning with June New Student Orientation through August Opening Weekend. All first year students (who are beginning in the fall semester) will experience the following orientation/transitional programs:

June New Student Orientation
June New Student Orientation is a day and a half, overnight, on campus experience, that includes sessions for incoming first year students and families. These sessions provide opportunities to meet other members of the incoming class, learn information about the College community, receive resources and tools, participate in a service learning experience, and engage in presentations to prepare for the first year at Becker College. June New Student Orientation is mandatory for all incoming first year students.

Registration for the June New Student Orientation program sessions opens in April and is an online, first come, first serve registration process for each session date. Please visit the June New Student Orientation page for more information.

The NEST (New Experiences for a Successful Transition) Online Orientation course
The NEST is an online orientation course that is mandatory for all first year students.

The NEST is hosted through Canvas, the College’s online course management system, and is open to first year students to complete during the month of July. The NEST consists of video messages from professional staff members, along with brief quizzes and assignments that each student must complete. Instructions and guidelines for the NEST are communicated to all incoming first year students throughout the summer months.

AlcoholEdu & Haven
AlcoholEdu & Haven are online educational courses that use science-based research to educate all our community members about alcohol and sexual assault. All incoming first year students are required to complete both the AlcoholEdu & Haven courses. There are two parts to the courses- Part I will be available to students in early August, while Part II will be available to students to complete in the fall semester. AlcoholEdu & Haven are widely used educational programs in higher education and provide all incoming students with a common base of knowledge and resources, as well as help schools comply with Education Department General Administrative regulations.

Information about AlcoholEdu & Haven will be emailed out to all incoming students (via Becker email account) during the summer months.

International Students

Please note: if you are an international student, starting as a new student at Becker College in the fall semester, you will move to campus on the date communicated to you by the Director of International Student Services. You will participate in an international student orientation and you will then join in with the August Opening Weekend schedule of events. Please review all instructions and expectations for international student orientation programs with the Director of International Student Services.

A Note for All Incoming Students:

As you can gather from this information, it will be imperative for you to check your Becker email account regularly throughout the summer. This is the primary way the College will communicate need-to-know information to you. And it will be the primary mode of communication moving forward when you are here on campus starting in the fall.
