Senior Game Exhibit: Hex

Hex Game ScreenshotThe Becker College game design seniors on team Hex Group have been hard at work on their senior project, a prototype of an as-yet unnamed game referred to as “Project Hex.”

The game is a fast-paced, turn-based competitive strategy game with game-play that is a mix between chess and fire emblem, according to team producer Spencer Silverman. Silverman said he and teammates Stephen Borge, Matt Rampino, and Dan Lasalvia chose to create a competitively focused game because it would be unique; none of their classmates’ projects were similar. “We thought it would be an interesting direction in which to take our senior game,” Silverman said.

One of the greatest challenges the team has faced is deciding how to handle the game’s art. “We needed to generate a large number of assets that had to pass through multiple development stages, and we needed to find a good way to produce them in a timely manner while still looking good,” Silverman said. He noted that the team has largely succeeded, with a fully functioning user interface and a mostly complete game.

The game design senior projects were exhibited on campus in November.
