Dr. Debra Pallatto-Fontaine, Executive Director for Global Initiatives and the Yunus Social Business Centre at Becker College, has been asked to serve on the board of directors of the Be Like Brit Foundation. The Worcester-based nonprofit works to raise the next generation of leaders in Haiti.

Dr. Pallatto-Fontaine has been involved with Brit’s Home, an orphanage in Grand Goave, Haiti run by Be Like Brit, since 2012, and has served on its Program Committee for the past six years. She also has arranged for professional training for the teachers and caregivers at Brit’s Home, and leads annual service trips to the orphanage in Haiti every year for Becker College students.

Dr. Pallatto-Fontaine developed the Becker College/Be Like Brit Education Program where staff members take six modules in child development psychology and receive a certificate upon successful completion of course objectives.  Last May, 11 staff members took part in a graduation at Brit’s Home. This year, 23 staff members will receive their certificates with expected graduation on May 16.

“The Be Like Brit Foundation is honored to have Dr. Pallatto-Fontaine join our board of directors,” said Len Gengel, the president of Be Like Brit and a Becker College alumnus. “Debbie is committed to our mission and vision and is loved by our 66 children and admired by our 110 Haitian staff.

The Be Like Brit Foundation is dedicated to carrying out the mission of Brit’s Home, which was established in 2011 in memory of Britney Gengel, Len Gengel’s daughter, who was killed during the 2010 earthquake while on a service trip to help Haiti’s orphans.
