Becker College Announces New School
Becker College announces the formation of its fourth school, effective July 1. The new School of Humanities and Social Sciences will encompass Criminal Justice, Legal Studies, Education, Psychology and the Humanities. Also announced today is the renaming of the School of Nursing and Behavioral Sciences to the School of Nursing and Health Sciences.
“This academic restructuring will enhance the academic experience of our ever-growing student body and further strengthens our commitment to preparing graduates for their first to last careers,” said Nancy P. Crimmin, Ed.D., president of Becker College. “Excellence in academic programs is one of the College’s many points of distinction, as evidenced by our recent recognition as a College of Distinction.”
The new school will be headed by Ursula Furi-Perry, J.D., who will take the helm as dean on July 1. An experienced attorney and professor of legal studies and criminal justice, Furi-Perry brings expertise in building, managing, and executing new projects and programs. She most recently served as assistant dean of the School of Nursing and Behavioral Sciences. Furi-Perry holds a bachelor’s degree from Brandeis University and a Juris Doctor magna cum laude from the Massachusetts School of Law at Andover.
“The humanities and social sciences are applicable to many fields, from criminal justice to education,” said Furi-Perry. “This realignment fosters collaboration among programs and allows us to focus on practical applications that will ultimately prepare our students for meaningful and successful careers in those fields.”
The School of Humanities and Social Sciences is the latest academic unit added. Just last week, the College opened the Colleen C. Barrett Center for Global Innovation and Entrepreneurship, which provides students access to cutting-edge technologies, including an Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality Lab, Game and Live Studios, and an Esports Lab.
Becker’s three other schools – the School of Design and Technology, the School of Animal Studies and Natural Sciences, and the School of Nursing and Health Sciences – are renowned for their programs, including nursing, animal studies and game design. The Princeton Review recently ranked Becker the #4 best school in world to study Game Design.
