About the Course:

An introductory biochemistry course covering the structure and function of the major types of biomolecules and the primary metabolic pathways in mammalian organisms. Topics include: chemical and physical properties of proteins, nucleic acids, carbohydrates, and lipids; enzyme kinetics, inhibition, and mechanism; the pathway from DNA to proteins; membrane function and transporters; pathways for catabolism and biosynthesis of carbohydrates, amino acids, lipids, and nucleotides; pathway integration; regulation of metabolism by effectors and hormones; and bioenergetics. Prerequisites: Biology I & II or Anatomy and Physiology I & II and Organic Chemistry I & II.
