Becker to Offer Esports Management Scholarships
Published on: October 11, 2018
Following the launch of a first-in-the-nation Esports Management degree in June, Becker College has announced the availability of Esports Management academic scholarships for the inaugural 2019 Esports Management class. This is the first program in the U.S. to offer scholarships for this type of program.
“We are focused on providing students with practical, hands-on learning and an entrepreneurial outlook, to best prepare them for the future of work in the booming esports industry,” said Alan Ritacco, Dean of the School of Design and Technology.
Becker’s Esports Management major—offered through the College’s School of Design and Technology—will equip students with the knowledge and experience needed to excel in one of the fastest-growing sectors in the sports and entertainment industries.
The global esports industry is growing at a rate of 40% a year and is expected to top $1.5 billion dollars (U.S.) in revenue by 2020 and a global audience of over 580 million. With growth comes opportunities in the form of demand for professionals with the right mix of education, passion, and experience.
“The four-year degree curriculum emphasizes the business side of this exciting industry,” said Ritacco. “Students will learn how to plan and execute small- and large-scale events utilizing the latest in streaming technology, develop business plans to create teams, create online communities, and promote events through digital technology, through traditional face-to-face classes with a potential for hybrid delivery.”
Students interested in more information about the program or scholarship eligibility can contact Becker Admissions. Transfer students interested in the Esports Management major can begin inquiring about January admission immediately. Enrollment for first-year students begins in the fall of 2019. Becker — ranked fourth in world for game design by The Princeton Review, and sixth for its Master in Fine Arts in Interactive Media Design — is the only college in the U.S. to offer academic scholarships for an Esports Management program.
