Boston Uprising Collegiate Cup logoThe Becker College varsity and junior varsity Overwatch teams will both be competing in the Spring 2020 Boston Uprising Collegiate Cup (BUCC), which kicks off on April 17.

“The BUCC is something we really look forward to every time it happens,” said Becker Varsity Esports Program General Manager and Esports Club Advisor Tim Loew. “Both of our Overwatch squads have done a great job of hanging in there this semester, and the timing of this tournament couldn’t be better.”

The competition will feature New England colleges and universities looking to display their skills against other top teams in the region for the chance to earn the cup.

The tournament qualifier rounds, being managed by Helix eSports, will take place from April 17- April 30. Finals will be held on or before May 3. Tournament rules will allow the teams playing each other to determine the date and time they would like to play. Matches will be streamed on the Boston Uprising Twitch channel.

Teams participating in the Boston Uprising Collegiate Cup include Becker, Boston University, Champlain, Dartmouth, Emerson, Johnson and Wales, Northeastern, Roger Williams, UMass Amherst, URI, and WPI.

The Boston Uprising, owned by the Kraft Group – which also owns the New England Patriots and Revolution – is the region’s only team in the Overwatch League, a professional esports league with 20 teams around the world.

In addition to a Varsity Esports Program, Becker features an active Esports Club and the first-in-the-nation Bachelor in Esports Management degree.
