Becker College Hosts Global Game Jam Online Site
Published on: January 27, 2021
Becker College has announced that it is hosting a Global Game Jam (GGJ) Online site. As in past years, students from Becker’s International Game Developers Association (IGDA) Chapter are leading the local effort, which will run from January 27-31. The GGJ is the world’s largest game creation event; Becker is one of hundreds of virtual host sites across the globe.
For GGJ participants, the focus for the gathering is on collaboration, not competition, and is designed to foster game design and game education, while helping students form new friendships and increase their self-confidence. “Jammers” are encouraged to explore new technology tools as they work together to design, create, and test new games, all within a 48-hour time frame.
The free event is open to all and begins online at 6:00pm on Wednesday when participants will watch a short video keynote. This will be followed by the announcement of the event’s secret theme. All sites are challenged to make games based on that same theme, with games to be completed by Sunday afternoon.
Last year, prior to the pandemic, GGJ produced 9,601 games and was held at 934 locations in 118 countries.
