The Becker College Esports Club “Heatwave” and “Frostbite” Overwatch teams have been chosen to compete in the first-ever Boston Uprising Collegiate Cup. Overwatch is a team-based, multiplayer online game where players are assigned into two teams of six, with every player selecting from a roster of characters, each with a unique style of play.

“Being part of the inaugural Boston Uprising Collegiate Cup is really an exciting opportunity for the club teams to get everyone’s attention,” said Becker Esports Club Advisor Tim Loew. “ ‘Heatwave’ and ‘Frostbite’ have done a great job playing and demonstrated a real commitment to the game.”

This event will showcase local schools looking to display their skills against other top teams for a chance to win a trip to Blizzard Arena in Burbank, CA to see the Boston Uprising compete. The tournament will end on December 8 with a live event that will feature a clash between the final four teams at Laugh Boston.

The Boston Uprising, owned by the Kraft Group – which also owns the New England Patriots and Revolution – is the region’s only team in the Overwatch League, a professional esports league with 20 teams around the world.

In addition to an active Esports Club on campus, Becker also features the only Varsity Esports Program in the state and the first-in-the-nation Bachelor in Esports Management degree.
