Barrett Center. The event is free and participants can win cool prizes such as Shine 2019 passes. Professionals, amateurs, fans, and the simply curious of all ages are welcome.

SSBU is a popular Nintendo game with a huge community of players. Close to 200 people have preregistered for the event, which will be held from 12-6 p.m. at 80 William Street in Worcester.

“We’re excited to be hosting the Smash Bros. community on campus for this special event,” said Timothy Loew, Executive Director at the Massachusetts Digital Games Institute (MassDiGI). “With Shine, a bigtime Smash Bros. tournament coming to the DCU Center in August, local events like ours are key to helping get the word out around Worcester and central Massachusetts.”

Shine 2019 is the sponsor and MassDiGI and Becker are hosting the event along with support from Discover Central Mass., the Becker Gaming Tournaments and Esports Clubs and Game Underground.

“It should be a great, family-friendly time,” said Loew. “Bring your Switch and controller and join us.”
