Overwatch Invitational Tournament set for April 5

Becker College’s Varsity Esports Program is excited to announce that its spring Overwatch Invitational Tournament will take place on Sunday, April 5. In addition to Becker, the teams competing online will include the University of Massachusetts Amherst, Murray State University, and Emerson College.
Becker, the first college in New England to establish a varsity esports program, has seven players on the varsity Overwatch team and more than a dozen on junior varsity and club teams. In addition to varsity esports, Becker is also home to student-led esports and gaming tournaments clubs. The College, ranked #2 in the world by The Princeton Review for its highly-regarded undergraduate game design academic programs, is also the first-in-the-nation to offer a degree in esports management.
Becker’s varsity Overwatch team, led by Coach Nicholas “Shifty” Travis, won its inaugural Overwatch Invitational Tournament last November by outplaying the University of Mississippi.
“After launching our varsity program, one of our next goals was to foster traditions like the creation of fall and spring invitational tournaments,” said Travis. “We’re really excited to play against such strong competitors—and may the best team win.”
The matches in the Overwatch Invitational Tournament, which will all be played online, are scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. Viewing information will be shared @BeckerEsports on Twitter prior to the tournament this Sunday.
