“Young people are our future,” said Semi Ojeleye. “And, I welcome the opportunity to help the next generation coming up, especially during this moment in our nation’s history.”

Becker is committed to bringing the community together, finding more ways to connect through play during a time where people need to be physically distant.

“Video games and esports are enormously important to the college community,” said Alan Ritacco, Ph.D., dean of the Becker College School of Design & Technology. “We think that this event is a great way to show that, even though we are all apart in real life, we are all together online.”

Madden NFL 20 is the latest iteration of the massively popular—130 million copies have been sold since 1988 —football simulation video game published by Electronic Arts. And, Fortnite—the free-to-play battle royale sensation from Epic Games—counts nearly 250 million players.

“Producing this is a great opportunity for us,” said Haley Jarosz ’20, former president of the student-led Becker Esports Club. “We love seeing our College connected with cool events like this. Video games are playing a major role in bringing people together during the pandemic, and we are excited to work with Semi, Izo, and everyone at Becker College to make it happen.”

“At Becker, we love games and esports – the competition, teamwork, sportsmanship, joy,” said Becker College President Nancy P. Crimmin, Ed.D. “An event like this is important at this moment, and we’re excited to host it.”
