Becker College dean makes ‘Power 50’ List
Published on: June 6, 2019
Alan Ritacco, dean of Becker College’s School of Design & Technology, has been named to the Worcester Business Journal Power 50 Class of 2019, a list of the most influential people in the Central Massachusetts economy. According to the journal’s criteria, those recognized not only hold powerful positions in the region, but must wield their power in a way to have an “outsized influence on the community.”
Ritacco notes that “we are heading into a technology boom, where we will see a stronger focus and buildout of incubation in both software and engineering,” and believes students in the School of Design & Technology are well poised to capitalize on that boom. “Becker is leading the way in the growing field of interactive media design, and our students are well-positioned to drive the industry forward.”
Ritacco has led the School to high heights. Just this year, The Princeton Review named Becker’s game design program 3rd in the world and 1st in New England. In its debut year, the MFA in Interactive Media ranked 11th in the world. He has overseen the creation of a first-in-the-nation Esports Management degree at Becker, which started in the Fall of 2018, along with a new major in Emerging Media and Content Creation. He also set up a unique program for underprivileged 7th and 8th grade girls to come to Becker over the summer to learn more about the sciences and technology, with the goal of inspiring the next generation of entrepreneurs.
