AVID Tutor “Advanced Via Individual Determination” at Worcester Public Schools

AVID is a national program that works with students in grades 7-12 who are capable of completing a college preparatory program but need additional support and assistance. AVID tutors assist students by leading study groups, checking student notes/binders, providing academic support, acting as a role model, and more.

If you are a work study eligible student who is interested in applying to be an AVID tutor, print these forms, complete them, and return them to Career Services on either campus.

Other information:

  • All majors are encouraged
  • Several locations in Worcester are available, including some within walking distance of the Worcester Campus.
  • Students must have some weekday hours available between 7:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
  • If you are a work study eligible student interested in applying to be an AVID tutor, print the forms in the chart below and return them to Career Services on either campus.
  • Two required training sessions will take place in mid-to-late September before the job starts.
  • Students must pass a Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) check in order to be eligible. Note: The CORI typically takes about two weeks to process. If you are interested in AVID tutoring, it is recommended that all application materials are completed and turned in as soon as possible to ensure eligibility that aligns with the beginning of the semester.
  • Students must provide a photocopy of a driver's license or other official ID. Note: Copies may be made at Career Services when you submit materials.

ACE “African Community Education” program at Elm Park School

ACE is a community-oriented program targeted to African refugee children living in the Worcester area. Students in this program are very bright and motivated, and ACE seeks to draw on those strengths to close the gaps in their education. ACE has a comprehensive Saturday program tailored to meet the needs of the students, which includes educational and social enrichment activities, as well as weekday tutoring. Work-study students can assist with tutoring and administrative duties in support of the program.

  • All majors are encouraged
  • Elm Park School is a five-minute walk from the Worcester Campus.
  • In addition to tutoring, opportunities are available to help with office work, sports, art, and other programs.
  • Positions are flexible, with the opportunity for more focused, major-specific responsibilities or projects.
  • Weekday (9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.) and Saturday hours are available
