Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science

At Becker College, the Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science is a multidisciplinary and experiential based program that immerses our students in the study of human movement, health and wellness. Those who graduate with an Exercise Science degree go on to serve in a wide range of professions within the athletic and sports performance industry, fitness and wellness industry as well as the rehabilitation and sports medicine industry.

Our graduates have pursued careers in all of the following disciplines; however, many of these require additional education, training and licensure that cannot be obtained through our program alone:

The Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science program is a versatile degree that can provide our students with a strong academic background for a wide variety of jobs, fitness related careers, certifications as well as a strong preparation for entry into a graduate or a professional healthcare degree program. All Exercise Science students at Becker College will graduate with certifications in CPR/First Aide from the American Red Cross as well as preparation to qualify for the certification exams for Personal Training, Strength and Conditioning, and/or Exercise Specialist from nationally recognized organizations.

Learning Outcomes:

Upon completion of the Exercise Science program students will:

  1. Apply their knowledge of structural and functional anatomy and the principles of physiology as they relate to the responses and adaptations to physical activity and exercise.
  2. Develop research competency including to data acquisition, analysis and reporting pertaining to the athletic and fitness industry.
  3. Explain the importance of a physically active lifestyle, diet and exercise as means to improve quality of life and reduce the risk and prevalence of diseases.
  4. Assess the health and fitness needs and goals of healthy and unhealthy populations and develop an appropriate fitness prescription based upon that assessment.
  5. Apply principles of motor development theory to the challenges of human movement across the lifespan.
  6. Utilize practical knowledge to assess and respond appropriately to medical emergencies.
