General Accreditation Information

Becker College is granted accreditation by the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE) at the associate, bachelor, and master degree levels. The NECHE is a nongovernmental, nationally recognized organization with a broad spectrum of affiliated institutions from elementary schools to collegiate institutions offering postgraduate instruction. The College is also approved by the Massachusetts Department of Education to grant Initial Licensure for the Early Childhood Education level (pre-K through grade 3) and Initial Licensure in Elementary Education (grades 1 through 6).

Accreditation of an institution by the NECHE indicates that it meets or exceeds criteria for the assessment of institutional quality periodically applied through a peer group review process. An accredited school or college is one which has available the necessary resources to achieve its stated purposes through appropriate educational programs, is substantially doing so, and gives reasonable evidence that it will continue to do so in the foreseeable future. Institutional integrity is also addressed through accreditation.

Accreditation by the NECHE is not partial but applies to the institution as a whole. As such, it is not a guarantee of the quality of every course or program offered, or the competence of individual graduates. Rather, it provides reasonable assurance about the quality of opportunities available to students who attend the institution.

The NECHE standards focus on the 9 key areas below:

  • Standard 1: Mission and Purposes
  • Standard 2: Planning and Evaluation
  • Standard 3: Organization and Governance
  • Standard 4: The Academic Program
  • Standard 5: Students
  • Standard 6: Teaching, Learning, and Scholarship
  • Standard 7: Institutional Resources
  • Standard 8: Educational Effectiveness
  • Standard 9: Integrity, Transparency, and Public Disclosure

Inquiries regarding the status of an institution‘s accreditation by the NECHE should be directed to the administrative staff of the school or college. Individuals may also contact the Association:
