SGA Campaign Regulations & Guidelines
These guidelines are designed to keep order and fairness throughout the election. You are encouraged to develop a platform of ideas that you wish to communicate with the student body about your goals for SGA should you be elected. YOU are responsible for your campaign, which includes other students who may be helping you campaign.
- All SGA applications need to be submitted on or before Friday, September 20, 2013. Candidates will be verified for eligibility by Monday, September 23, 2013 through the Campus Activities and Student Leadership Development Office.
- Candidates may begin campaigning on Monday, September 23, 2013.
- All campaign materials MUST be approved by the Office of Campus Activities BEFORE they are posted. The materials should be emailed for approval and review to firstname.lastname@example.org and should be submitted on or before Friday, September 20 2013 in order to be approved for September 23, 2013.
- There is a $35 limit on campaign spending. All candidates must save receipts for any purchases made on behalf of campaigning, until the Office of Campus Activities indicates that they are no longer needed. In the event of a question regarding expenditures made by a candidate to campaign, the Office of Campus Activities reserves the right to ask for receipt evidence of purchases. The use of college resources for campaigning is prohibited.
- Flyers no larger than 11 x17 may be hung on bulletin boards or posting areas in campus buildings. Postings in the Fuller Campus Center must be approved by the Office of Campus Activities prior to posting. Campaign materials shall NOT be posted on wood, plastic, painted, or surfaces other than designated posting areas. Candidates are responsible for following the guidelines outlined in the College’s posting policy.
- Candidates are NOT allowed to place flyers on cars in parking lots.
- Candidates may request to set-up a table/campaign booth in the Fuller Campus Center or Boutin Student Center during the campaign period of September 23 through September 28, 2013. All requests must be approved and reserved by the Office of Campus Activities. Only four hours total at a table/booth will be allowed for the entire campaign period, per candidate.
- Candidates are responsible for the removal and disposal of their campaign materials after voting. All campaign materials MUST be removed no later than October 1, 2013.
- All campaign materials must be respectful, in line with the College’s core values and mission, in good taste, and in accordance with the Becker Student Code of Conduct. Campaign materials should not speak poorly of other candidates running for the same position; they should only say positive things regarding YOU and YOUR candidacy.
- All candidates will have an opportunity to post a picture with a written caption (no more than 500 words) to the Campus Activities special election web pages on the Becker College web site. Please contact Tracey Pakstis-Claiborne at email@example.com to arrange your web marketing campaign platform.
- Use of social media for campaign purposes- All candidates may campaign through the Becker College Campus Activities Facebook page. Exercise caution when using this venue. Anything posted online under your name (even if it’s not you) falls under the same scrutiny of all other types of campaigning. All election rules and ethics must be followed on the Facebook page, and all announcements/information must be respectful and reflective of the College’s core values and mission. No individual Facebook pages for student campaigns may be developed.
- Elections will be electronic, and all students will be allowed one vote per candidate/position.
- Failure to comply with these guidelines can result in charges in violation of the Student Code of Conduct, removal of campaign materials, and/or disqualification from the election.
