Counseling is a process of change in which individuals are helped to define goals and seek solutions to their personal, social, or academic concerns. Counseling involves a relationship of trust between a professional and a client.
Students may talk with friends and family members about their concerns. Having that support system in place is important. But counseling is very different. Counseling provides you with an opportunity to discuss issues that are important to you, confidentially, in a safe place. Counselors do not tell you what to do, but will help you learn to make good decisions for yourself. They will also help you identify options and put a plan in place so that you can fully develop your potential.
