Frequently Asked Questions for Accelerated Students

Where is Commencement?

Commencement will be held at the DCU Center, 50 Foster St., Worcester, Mass.

What time does Commencement begin?

Commencement exercises begin at 11:00 a.m on Saturday, May 9. Graduates must arrive by 10:00 a.m. Commencement will be approximately two hours long.

How many tickets do I receive?

Each graduate will receive six invitations and six tickets.  There is no charge for tickets.  If you need additional tickets, please notify Sheila Soloperto   Your invitations and tickets will be mailed to you during the months of March and April.

Do I need tickets for my young children?

If your child will be occupying a seat, you will need a ticket for him/her.

Is there a handicap section?

Yes, there is a section reserved for wheelchairs and handicapped guests.  Please notify Joyce Erickson at if you need to request handicapped seating.

Where do I get my cap and gown?

Caps and gowns will be available for pickup after April 15, 2015 at the Becker College bookstore on the Worcester Campus. If you would like your cap and gown mailed to you, please notify Sheila Soloperto no later than April 15.

Do Accelerated students graduate together or are they with other students?

Students are seated by program, so day and accelerated students are together.

Will I receive my diploma on Commencement day?

All students will receive an empty diploma jacket as they walk across the stage.  Diplomas will be sent within six weeks of graduation if a student has completed their degree requirements and fulfilled their financial obligations to the College.

How will I know if I am graduating with honors?

If your GPA is 3.50 or higher on April 1, you will graduate with honors when you participate in Commencement.  For students who have not completed their degree requirements, this could change after courses are taken at a later date.  For students who have completed their degree requirements, their final honors designation will be reflected in the Commencement program.

The following are honors designations for students earning a bachelor’s degree at Becker College.

3.50-3.69         Cum Laude
3.70-3.89         Magna Cum Laude
3.90-4.00        Summa Cum Laude

Your name will be read along with your honors designation and your honors will also be designated in the Commencement program.

How many credits can I have outstanding and still participate in the May 2015 Commencement?

Students with seven or fewer credits to earn will be allowed to participate in Commencement exercises.

Is there a photographer at Commencement?

Yes, there is a professional photographer available at Commencement to take your picture in your cap and gown.


All students who have achieved honors status at Commencement will be invited to the HONORS CONVOCATION to be held on the Leicester Campus of Becker College at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, May 8, followed by the GRAD FINALE, a reception for family and friends from 4:00-5:00 p.m. All graduating students, family, and friends are invited to GRAD FINALE.
