Hawks Split With Blazers

Women’s Basketball – Becker 49 Elms 43

 
Leicester, MA – Becker College sophomore guard Courtney Fisk (Westfield, MA) netted a game high 15 points and six rebounds as the Hawks defeated North Atlantic foe Elms College 49-43 in Saturday afternoon action at the Leicester gymnasium.
 
Becker improves to 2-0 vs. Elms this season. Their overall record is 12-9, 6-5 NAC. Elms drops to 7-13 (4-6 NAC). Both teams wore pink warm-up shirts and wrist bands to recognize the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association’s “Think Pink” initiative for Breast Cancer Awareness.
 
Elms outperformed the Hawks from the field shooting 37% to 29 % and held the rebounding edge 38-33. The Hawks hit 9 three pointers in the game, shooting 34% from behind the three point arc and that was the difference in the score.
 
Becker held a 25-17 lead at half.
 
It was senior day for the Hawks. Senior Brittany Evans (Danielson, CT) finished with 4 points, 3 rebounds and a game high 5 assists and senior Kristen Karat added 7 points, 4 rebounds and 6 steals.  
 
The Blazers were led by Amada Brogna (Oxford, MA) who had 11 points 4 rebounds and 2 steals. Paige Schneider (Windsor, CT) added 9 points 8 rebounds and 4 assists.
 

Becker returns to action on Tuesday, February 12 as they travel to Bay Path College. Tip-off is 7:30pm

 

Men’s Basketball – Becker 57 Elms 80

 
Leicester, MA – Becker College junior guard Travis Suber (Springfield, MA) netted a game high 13 points, four rebounds and had four assists but it wasn’t enough in a 80-57 route by Elms College in North Atlantic Conference Saturday afternoon action at the Leicester gymnasium.
 
Becker’s overall record dips to 10-12, 6-4 NAC. Elms improves to 14-6, 7-2 NAC.
 
Elms never trailed in the game shooting a blistering 50% (15-30) from the field and from three point depth as the built a 29 point lead at the half, 46-17. The Blazers out rebounded the Hawks 42-35 and had 13 steals in the game.
 
Thirteen different Blazers got into the score sheet. Sophomore guard Juan Galdon (Holyoke, MA) had 13 points, Aswad Thomas (Hartford, CT) and Nate Hawes (New Hope, MN) each had 11 points and Malakie Berry (Enfield, CT) had 10 points.
 
It was senior day for the Hawks. Senior Emmanuel Masumbuko (Burlington, VT) finished with 6 points and 10 rebounds, Jeremy Rivers (Springfield, MA) had 2 rebounds, 4 assists, a block and a steal, and Tom Bowzer (Milford, MA) had 2 steals and a rebound.
 
Becker returns to action on Friday, February 15 as they travel to Johnson State College. Tip-off is 6:00pm
