Pion Nets 1000th Point

 

Leicester, MA – Leicester , MA – Becker College women’s basketball junior Beth Pion (Enfield, CT) became just the 3rd player in Hawks’ history to score 1,000 points finishing the game with 15 points. Becker defeated Johnson State College, 69-59, Saturday afternoon at the Leicester Gymnasium in North Atlantic Conference play.

 

Becker improves to 5-6 (1-2 NAC) and Johnson State dips to 5-6 (1-1 NAC).

 

Pion, who hit a beautiful three pointer with 3:18 left in the first half for her 1000^th point,  joins the company of Robyn Lebel (1054 pts, 89’-91’, Worcester Campus) and Cherrie Kennie (1042 pts, 89’-91, Worcester Campus). Pion is now just 48 points shy of the all-time mark.

 

Becker trailed 29-25 at the half. Maureen Driscoll (Washington, VT) scored 9 points for Johnson State and Pion countered with 11 for the Hawks.

 

The Hawks camp out firing from behind the three point arc to start the second half. They went 8-12 (68%) from three and turned a four point deficit into a 6 point lead with less than five minutes remaining. Courtney Fisk (Westfield, MA) was a catalyst on the floor hitting half of the Hawks threes in the second half. Fisk finished the game with 15 points.

 

Johnson State was led by center Claudia Martineau (Washington, VT) who had a team high 18 points and 5 rebounds. Jenna Lewis(Middlebury, VT) had 11 points and 4 assists.

 

Kristin Karat (Enfield, CT) had her usually strong game for the Hawks she had a game-high 26 points and 5 assists.

 

But the night belonged to Pion who finished with 15 points, 5 rebounds, 5 blocks, 3 assists and a steal.

  

Senior Brittany Evans (Danielson, CT) completed her night with 5 points, leaving her 27 points shy of becoming the 4th player in Becker College history with 1,000 points.

 

 

Becker returns to action on Tuesday night when Wheelock College visits for an  8:00 pm tip off.
