Becker Picks Up 1st NAC Win

Men's Basketball - Jacobs hits for career high 34 points

 Leicester, MA - The Becker Hawks men’s basketball team picked up their first North Atlantic Conference win of the season with a 95-78 rout of Castleton State College at the Leicester Gymnasium tonight. Becker improves to 4-8 (1-1 NAC) while Castleton drops to 5-6 (1-1 NAC).

 Becker held a 5 point lead in the first half on a three pointer by Jeremy Rivers (Springfield, MA) at the 16:19 mark of the game. The Spartans fought back and took their first lead of the game 17-16 on a three pointer by Joe Farley (Fairlee,VT) at 11:18. Castleton increased the lead to six points on a three pointer by Kevin Cayea (Red Hook, NY), 27-21. Becker went on a 20-10 run to finish the first half with a four point lead 41-37 going into the half. There were six different lead changes in the first half.  Travis Suber (Springfield, MA) led all scorers in the first half with 17 points. Becker outshot Castleton 55%-38% from the field and out rebounded them 19-16 in the first stanza.

 

The Hawks came out of the half firing, going on a 10-4 run to open the second half and increase the lead to 53-41 with 15:16 remaining. Becker added another 9 points to the lead with a 36-25 run in the middle ten minutes to take a commanding 89-66 edge. Castleton finished with a 12-6 run to make the final 95-78.

 

Freshman Trey Jacobs (Lexington Park, MD) finished the game with a double double. Jacobs had a game high 10 rebounds and a career high 34 points. Suber finished with 25 points and 7 assists. Kevin Miranda(Brocton, MA) had 18 points off the bench.

 

Castleton was led by Josh Howe (Randolph, VT) who had 22 points and Cayea who finished with 16.

 

Becker out rebounded Castleton 44-22.

 

Becker returns to action tomorrow when they face Johnson State at 2:00pm, Castleton travels to Elms for a 2:00pm tip-off.
