Lynx defeat Lady Hawks 71-62

 Women’s Basketball – Lynx take Lady Hawks 71-62
 
Leicester, MA – Lesley University defeated the Becker Hawks 71-62 today in North Atlantic Conference action at the Leicester Gymnasium on the Becker campus. Lesley with the win improves to 5-2 (2-0 NAC) and Becker dips to 3-4 (0-1 NAC).
 
In the first 20 minutes of the game neither team could get a scoring rhythm going. There were 11 lead changes, 27 turnovers (15 Becker, 12 Lesley) and 10 steals. Becker took a 31-29 lead into the locker room on a three point play by Beth Pion (Enfield, CT). Pion had 11 first half points and Kristin Karat (Enfield, CT) added 8 for the Hawks. Lesley was led by Hailee Lowe’s (Hamilton, MA) 12 points and Courtnie Leakeas (Lowell, MA) 9 rebounds.
 
Lesley took the lead for good 32-31 at the 19:52 mark of the second half on a Kaitlyn Wechsler (Merrick, NY) three pointer. The Lynx opened up the game with a 13-2 run to take a 45-33 lead with just under 13 minutes remaining. Becker tried to get back in the game and had closed the lead to 4 points 65-61 with 2 minutes to play but Lesley hit their free throws down the stretch to close out the game.
 
Rachel Pinak (Cheektowaga, NY) led the Hawks with 10 points and 12 rebounds for her second double-double of the season. Karat finished with a game high 25 points and Pion with 18 points. Brittany Evans (Danielson, CT) had a solid game with 7 points and 9 rebounds.
 
The Lynx were led by Leakeas who also tallied a double-double with 11 points and 16 rebounds. Lowe finished with 20 points and 8 boards and Wechsler chipped in 11.
 
The Lady Hawks return to action when they host Green Mountain College on Tuesday, December 11th at 6:00 pm.
