Men’s Basketball – Lynx to Powerful for Hawks
Leicester, MA- Senior Joseph Chatman (Boston, MA) scored 30 points for Lesley University as the Lynx defeated Becker College 85-77 in a Saturday matinee at the Leicester Gymnasium. Lesley picks up their first North Atlantic Conference win and improves to 3-5. Becker dips to 3-6 (0-1 NAC).
Lesley jumped out quickly building a 22-9 advantage at the halfway point of the first half. The teams traded baskets for the next six minutes. With the score 40-26 Becker went on an 18-4 run to cut the lead to two points 44-42 going into the locker room. Chatman had 18 of his 30 points in the first half and Mark Stevens (Las Vegas, NV) added 13 for the Lynx. Becker was led by Kevin Miranda (Brockton, MA) and Travis Suber (Springfield, MA) who both poured in 8 points in the first stanza.
Miranda hit a three pointer just six seconds into the second half to give Becker their first lead 45-44 since early in the game. The scoring went back and forth with neither team taking more than a 4 point advantage over the next several minutes. At the 7:13 mark of the second Becker held its last lead 68-66, over the next two minutes Lesley would go on a 9-0 run to take a 75-68 advantage. Becker would cut the lead to two points 75-73 on a pair of Trey Jacobs (Lexington Park, MD) free throws and a Miranda three pointer.
The Lynx were to powerful down the stretch and outscored the Hawks 10-4 to finish the game.
Becker was led by Miranda who finished the game with 23 points and Jacobs who hit a career high 20 points and had 6 rebounds. Stevens finished with 26 points and 6 rebounds and Jesus Trejo (Methuen, MA) had a game high 10 rebounds to lead Lesley.
The Hawks return to action on Tuesday December 11, when they host Fitchburg State at 8:00 pm.
