Hawks Take Consolation Game

Becker Men’s Basketball Posts 82-79 Win over Nichols in Consolation Game of Worcester County Classic

 
DUDLEY, Mass- Junior Travis Suber (Springfield, Mass.) scored a game-high 24 points to go along with nine assists and six rebounds to lead the Becker men’s basketball team to a 82-79 victory over host Nichols in the consolation game of the 2007 Worcester County Classic.
 
The Bison took their biggest lead of the game, 43-34, with 16:35 left in the game but the Hawks quickly turned things around with an 18-4 drive spanning the next 5:43 to take the lead for good, 52-47.
 
Nichols made a valiant comeback, shrinking a 16 point lead by Becker to just two, 81-79 with 34 seconds left. The Bison used a 20-6 drive, keyed by back-to-back three’s by sophomores Ryan Wilcox (West Granby, Conn.) and Chris Paquin (Barre, Mass.), to get to within two. Following a made free throw by Becker’s Shawn Fuller (New Haven, Conn.), Paquin had two long range attempts rim out in the final seconds, giving the Hawks the three point victory.
The Hawks had five players reach double-figures led by Suber’s 24. Freshman Steve Jacobs (Lexington Park, Md.) recorded 18 points and seven rebounds while freshman Kevin Miranda (Brockton, Mass.) netted 12 points off the bench. Senior Emmanuel Masumbuko (Burlington, Vt.) and Fuller chipped in with 11 a piece while Masumbuko also contributed a game-high 11 boards.
Paquin led Nichols with 15 points while senior Ron Powers (Millville, Mass.) added 14 points and seven rebounds. Freshman Garret Bishop (Saratoga Spring, N.Y.) netted 12 points off the bench while sophomore Bryan Riley (West Boylston, Mass.) scored 11. Senior Chris Vallee (Fitchburg, Mass.) fouled out of the game with 13 minutes left in the game as he finished with seven points and six rebounds in 19 minutes of play.
