Prophet throws for four TD’s
Worcester, MA – The Becker College football team captured their second win of the season with a 28-14 win over Maritime College at Worcester State’s Coughlin Field. Becker’s record improves to 2-6 while Maritime drops to 2-7.
Becker was led by quarterback Gabriel Prophet (Washington, DC), wide receiver Levi Smith (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) and running back Anthony Johnson (Springfield, VA) on offense and Thaddeus France (Centerville, MA), Diego Lopez (Washington, DC) and Leonard McKinnon Charlton, MA) on defense.
Maritime jumped on board first scoring on their first possession. Quarterback Michael Smooke (Land O’ Lakes, FL) hit wide receiver Marc Kunchev (Angola, NY) on consecutive play for 9 yards and 34 yards to bring the ball down to the Becker 20 yard line. Running back Ben Swedish (Rocky Point, NY) finished off the drive with an 18 yard rush and a two yard scamper for the touchdown. Klestor Pellumbi (Astoria, NY) kicked the extra point for a Privateer 7-0 lead.
The Hawks went four plays and out on their first possession and gave Maritime great starting field position at their own 45. Maritime was once again marching down the field and had first and ten on the Becker 23 when the Becker defense stepped up. Smooke dropped back and threw for the end zone that was intercepted by cornerback Thaddeus France.
The offense responded with a great 80 yard drive. Johnson came out of the blocks quickly for a 25 yard pick-up and Prophet hit Bryan Childers (Wallingford, CT) for a 20 yard strike. Jacques Faublas (Canton, MA) caught an 8 yard pass and John DiNardi (East Haddam, CT) tacked on the extra point to make it 7-7 six seconds into the second quarter.
On Maritime’s first drive of the second quarter, the Becker defense forced a fumble and two plays later Prophet hit Levi Smith for a 45 yard touchdown and DiNardi kick and the Hawks had their first lead of the day 14-7.
The Prophet to Smith combination wasn’t finished on the day; Prophet hit Smith cutting across the middle for a 51 yard touchdown to make the game 21-7.
McKinnon had seven total tackle to lead the Hawks on defense. Lopez had two tackles and a fumble recovery.
Prophet finished the day 17-for 30 for 324 yards and four touchdowns. Levi Smith finished with 151 yards on five receptions and two touchdowns. Johnson rushed for 109 yards.
The teams traded touchdowns in the last four minutes of the game to make the final 28-14.
Becker finishes out the season on the road at Husson College next Saturday at 1:00 pm.
