Hawks Highlights - October 15th

Women’s Soccer- The Lady Hawks tied Bay Path College 1-1 in a hard fought contest. Catherine Millette (Columbia, CT) scored the lone goal for Becker. Catherine is now tied with Alena Phongsa (Putnam, CT) for team lead in goals with four. Caitlin Faunce (Fairhaven, MA) added 12 saves to preserve the tie. Caitlin now has an impressive 159 saves on the season. Over the weekend during conference action, Ashley deFigueiredo (Dartmouth, MA) added her third goal of the season. The Lady Hawks are now 0-13-2 overall, and 0-8-1 in the North Atlantic Conference.

 
Men’s Soccer- The Hawks finished the week with a 2-1 record. Their lone loss came in a heartbreaking overtime loss to Castleton State on Saturday. In one of the most physical games of the season, the men clawed their way to a 1-0 victory over conference rival Elms. Scott Medeiros (Assonet, Ma) redirected a shot off the post to seal the win. During conference action over the weekend, Samuel Adjei (Worcester, MA) got things started with his 3rd goal of the season. After Saturday’s tough defeat the Hawks turned things around quickly with a 1-0 win over Johnson State. Dircilino DeBrito (New Bedford, MA) drove a penalty kick home with just over 13 minutes remaining in the game to clinch the win for the Hawks. Goalkeeper Aaron Fill (Ladner, BC) continued his brilliant season with two shutouts this week. Fill had 16 saves on the week, adding to his season total of 76 saves. The Hawks are now 11-5 overall and 5-2 in the North Atlantic Conference. The Hawks 11 wins are the most since Becker became a four year NCAA member.
 
Field Hockey-The Lady Hawks went 0-2 on the week with losses to Westfield State and Simmons College. Ciara Lawrence (Costa Mesa, CA) made 9 saves against Simmons. Ciara how has 130 saves on the season. Tammy Mullen (Pottstown, PA) and Kristal Swiderski (Warren, MA) lead the Lady Hawks with 3 goals each. The Lady Hawks are now 1-13 overall and 0-7 in the North Atlantic Conference.
 
Women’s Tennis-The Lady Hawks lost 5-4 in conference play to Bay Path on Saturday. Catie Sivert (Stow, MA)- won her singles match 6-3, 6-1. Catie also won her doubles match with Allison Flynn (Wilmington, MA) 8-3. The Lady Hawks are now 9-3 overall and 2-1 in the North Atlantic Conference. The weekend of October 20-21st they will travel to Castleton State College for the NAC Championships.
 
Golf – The golf team traveled to Booth Bay Maine this past weekend for the NAC championship. The team finished 6th out of seven teams… Ben Malone (Westborough, MA) was selected to the NAC All-Conference Second Team. Ben shot a combined two day total 163, good enough for ninth place.
 
Volleyball – The team went 1-3 last week, with an overall record of 7-12 (3-4 NAC). In a 3-1 loss to Lesley Rachel Pinak (Cheektowaga, NY) had a season-high 29 digs. Pinak and Diane Hoefner (El Paso, TX) both had 12 kills and Kelsea Laubenstein (Randolph, MA) had 30 assists. In the weeks win a 3-0 decision over Albertus Magnus Pinak (11 digs, 5 kills and an ace) and Laubenstein (24 assists) once again led the team. The Volleyball team is expected to be very competitive in the NAC tournament which begins October 31st.
