Hartwick Wins Battle of Hawks
Worcester, MA – Lindy Crea rushed for 183 yards and one touchdown and Jack Phelan had five touchdowns and 212 receiving yards as Hartwick College defeated Becker College 61-32 at WPI’s Alumni Field. D’Andre Stringer rushed for 96 yards and the quarterbacking tandem of Karrone Stanley and Gabriel Prophet passed for 374 yards and three touchdowns to lead Becker. Hartwick improves to 4-2 and Becker drops to 1-4 for the season.
Phelan had a season-high five touchdowns catching passes of 10, 45, 24, 29 and 25 yards.
Becker took a 12-7 lead when quarterback Karrone Stanley had a quarterback keeper from the one yard line on the first play of the second quarter. Hartwick fired right back as quarterback Jason Boltus hit Lindy Crea for 15 yards and then hit Phelan for the 45 yard touchdown as Hartwick took the lead 20-12. The teams combined for 53 points in the second quarter.
Becker started their next series with great field position at the 50 yard line. On the first play from scrimmage Stringer broke free for a 44 yard scamper to the Hartwick six yard line. Stanley hit Ryan Mercado for the touchdown and a 20-20 ball game.
Phelan scored his third touchdown just 47 seconds later to make it 27-20 and Hartwick never looked back. They scored the next 20 points to make it 40-20. Becker’s Stringer returned the ensuing kickoff 80 yards to cut the lead to 40-26 at halftime.
Hartwick led off the third quarter with a Ben Zarzycki interception of Gabriel Prophet. Ryan Yetto scored from five yards out to make it 47-26. Becker countered with its longest drive of the game taking nearly eight minutes off the clock. Prophet hit wide receiver Bryan Childers for a five yard touchdown to make it 47-32.
Hartwick scored two more touchdowns to make the final 61-32.Quarterback Jason Boltus completed 19-of-41 passed for 347 yards and six touchdowns.
The Hawks return to action at 1:00 pm next Saturday when they travel to Salisbury State.
