Hawks Highlights 9/17
Volleyball – The team picked up a couple of huge conference wins over the weekend to even their record for the week at 2-2 and overall to 3-2 (2-0 NAC)…Co-Captain Rachel Pinak (Cheektowaga, NY) averaged 9.5 kills, 7 digs, 2 aces and 1 block for the Lady Hawks… In clutch conference match-ups Rachel had 16 kills, 4 assists, 9 digs and 2 aces in a 3-1 win over Bay Path College and 9 kills, 2 assists, 6 digs and 2 aces in a 3-0 win over Castleton State College…Pinak was named NAC Player of the Week…Freshman Kelsea Laubenstein had a career high 33 assists in the Bay Path College match… Katelyn Kane (Rutland, MA) had the game high digs in both matches (11, 8 respectfully)
Women’s Tennis – The Lady Hawks scored a pair of conference victories over the weekend. They improved their record to 4-1 (2-0 NAC). Led by Allison Flynn (Wilmington, MA), the reining NAC Player of the Year went 4-0. Allison dropped the first set vs. Castleton 1-6, won the second set 6-3 and then dominated the tiebreaker 10-3…Flynn paired with freshman Catie Sivret (Stow, MA) won in doubles 8-3. In the 9-0 win vs. Johnson State, Flynn again won her singles match 6-4, 6-3 and coupled with Sivert to win the doubles match 8-4…Flynn was named NAC Co-Player of the Week…Sivret also went 4-0 in match play. In a 6-3 conference win over Castleton State Catie won her number two singles match 6-2, 6-3 and totally dominated at Johnson State where she didn’t drop a game in her singles match 6-0, 6-0… Sivret was named NAC Rookie of the Week
Golf - The men’s golf team hit the links for the first time this season in a quad match vs. Johnson & Wales, Nichols and Anna Maria. The team finished in fourth place. Ben Malone (Westborough, MA) led the Hawks shooting an 85. John DiNardi (East Haddam, CT) shot an 89 and Jack Collins (Lisle, IL) a 96.
Field Hockey - The Lady Hawks dropped their first conference game of the season to Castleton State 2-0 over the weekend…Overall Record: 1-4 (0-1 NAC)…Keeper Ciara Lawrence (Costa Mesa, CA) had 7 saves in the loss and Tammy Mullen (Pottstown, PA) led the team with 2 shots on goal…Sharon Zenevitch has been named interim head coach replacing Tanya Stonehouse who is out on medical leave.
Men’s Soccer – Dircilino DeBrito (New Bedford, MA) and Alie Samura (Milton, MA) scored a pair of unassisted goals in the weeks only win over Daniel Webster College 2-1…The team went 1-1 for the week and have an overall record of 3-2…Goaltender Aaron Fill (Ladner, BC), who has played every minute of every game this season is toting a goals against average of 1.20.
Women’s Soccer – Goaltender Caitlin Faunce (Fairhaven, MA) made 14 saves in net in a 4-0 loss to Elms College on Saturday…It was the first conference game of the year for the soccer team…Kim Pino ( North Attleboro, MA) is leading in shots on goal…Overall record 0-5.
Football – The Hawks held a 13-0 advantage over WPI early in the first quarter of Saturday’s game…WPI went on to score 55 unanswered points, final score 61-33…Quarterback duo of Karrone Stanley (West Haven, CT) and Gabriel Prophet (Washington, DC) threw three touchdown passes and 282 yards…Jakar Turner (Hollywood, FL) had 83 yards receiving, one touchdown and a 61 kickoff return…Thaddeus France (Centerville, MA) had 7 tackles…Thierry Raphael (Lynn, MA) had 5 tackles and a sack…Becker drops to 0-3.
