Hawks Highlights - 9/10

The Becker Hawks faced several local foes this past week. Here is a recap of the weeks play.

Football: Becker (0-2) had their season home opener last Saturday at WPI verses Maine Maritime Academy. The Hawks dropped a 48-21 decision to the Mariners after nearly a two hour lightning delay... Leading the offense for the Hawks were a trio of quarterbacks…Freshman Gabriel Prophet (Washington, DC) was 4 for 9 with 57 passing yards…Ryan Grillo (Waterford, CT) threw for 122 yards and a touchdown and ran for 17 yards…Karrone Stanley (West Haven, CT) threw two touchdown passes and for117 yards…Anthony Johnson (Springfield, VA) led the receiving pack with 73 yards on 5 receptions…Kicker John Dinardi (East Haddam, CT) had a 50 yard punt.
 
Field Hockey: The Lady Hawks traveled to Nichols College over the weekend and took 5-0 loss to the Lady Bison…Goalkeeper Ciara Lawrence (Costa Mesa, CA) made 25 saves…Jen Ouellette (Merrimack, NH) led the team with two shots on net.
 
Women’s Soccer: The Lady Hawks lost a couple of games last week to drop their record to 0-3…Goaltender Tania Carvalho (Pawtucket, RI) made six saves in her college debut between the pipes in a 5-0 loss to Anna Maria College.
 
Men’s Soccer: The Hawks went 1-1 last week...Anna Maria College handed them a 2-0 loss…Aaron Fill (Ladner, BC, Canada) had five saves in net…The men bounced back and defeated Mitchell College 2-1 on Saturday…Sophomore Snjezan Telebak (Chicago, IL) scored both goals for the Hawks…Telebak broke a 1-1 tie with just over a minute remaining in the first half.
 
Women’s Tennis: Becker totally dominated Massachusetts College 9-0 in their only match of the week…Colleen Murphy (Lyme, CT) didn’t lose a game winning 6-0, 6-0…Allison Flynn(Wilmington, MA) lost one game 6-0, 6-1…Murphy and Danielle Stryker (Ledyard, CT) improved their doubles record to 3-0.
