Student Laptop Initiative

 

THE FALL 2009 STUDENT LAPTOP INITIATIVE CONCLUDED ON OCTOBER 30, 2009.

The Initiative will not be offered in future semesters*. In lieu of the laptop initiative, the Computer Purchase Program is available to students.

For questions related to HP hardware problems/issues in connection with your Laptop Initiative equipment please contact GovConnection Service and Support at (800) 800-0015. Please have your equipment serial number and any other paperwork on hand before calling. Thank you.

 Eligible students must have participated in the Fall 2009 Laptop Initiative Opt-out program and must continue to meet the original eligibility requirements i.e. clearance by Offices of the Registrar and Student Accounts.

Cards are available at the Office of Student Accounts/Worcester Campus.

Congratulations! As a new student to Becker College in Fall 2009, you may be eligible for the Becker Student Laptop Initiative (BSLI). This year the initiative offers more options than ever before including choices that enhance affordability. Now, eligible students will be able to Opt-in or Opt-out! Click on Eligibility Policy Overview to the left for more information and to download forms. You must fill out a form whether you are Opting-in or Opting-out. 

 

  • Opt-in - If you choose to Opt-in to BSLI this fall you will be provided with an HP 6735b laptop computer (click here to view a brief product description) from GovConnection and Microsoft Office media kit and anti-virus software link, network cable and a laptop bag. If opting-in, it is highly recommended all forms be completed no later than during Welcome Week in order to assure timely delivery of your laptop. 
  • Opt-out - If you already have a computer that meets the College's minimum system requirements and choose to Opt-out of BSLI this fall you will receive Becker College Bookstore gift cards/vouchers worth $850 split over your first two semesters. 

Please note, Becker College mandates that all Design Program students (game, design, game programming, graphic design, and interior design) have a laptop or notebook computer. If you have any questions regarding the Design Programs, please contact the department chair, Paul Cotnoir, directly at 508.373.9731.

  • Design Program Opt-in - If you choose to Opt-in to BSLI this fall you will be provided with an upgraded HP 8730w laptop computer (click here to view a brief product description) from GovConnection and Microsoft Office media kit and anti-virus software link, network cable and a laptop bag while having a program charge of $1150 added to your bill. This charge is for the upgraded, program specific laptop as mandated by Becker's Design Programs. If opting-in, it is highly recommended all forms be completed no later than during Welcome Week in order to assure timely delivery of your laptop. 
  • Design Program Opt-out - If you already have a laptop that meets the College's minimum system requirements and choose to Opt-out of BSLI this fall you will receive Becker College Bookstore gift cards/vouchers worth $850 split over your first two semesters. Gift cards/vouchers will be available for pick-up

Students who Opt-out or who are not eligible for Fall 2009 BSLI are welcome to visit the new Becker Computer Purchase Program webpage where you can find links to independently buy hardware and software at discounted rates at selected technology vendors. In the meantime, for some general information on purchasing a computer for college refer to the Becker College Guide to Purchasing a Computer.

  • You may mail your completed form to the attention of Judy Jarvis, Office of Student Accounts, Becker College, 61 Sever St., Worcester, MA 01609. Once the office clears your form, you will be contacted with further information after August 3, 2009.
  • All Fall 2009 forms must be received by October 30, 2009.
  • Fall 2009 is the final semester of the Becker Student Laptop Initiative. It will not be offered in future semesters. In lieu of the laptop initiative, the Computer Purchase Program is available to students.
