Do I have to attend New Student Summer Orientation?
Yes, all freshmen are expected to attend both summer orientation and fall Welcome Week. You will benefit greatly from attending orientation as you will have the opportunity to familiarize yourself with campus, meet some of your future classmates, and speak with representatives from various offices.
What if the event that I want to attend is full?
Registration for New Student Orientation is provided on a first-come, first-serve basis. All students are encouraged to register as early as possible in order to reserve a space. Seating at each event is limited, and therefore once an event is listed as "closed" no further registrations will be offered.
Do my parents/guests have to come to Summer Orientation?
It is entirely optional for your parents or guests to attend Summer Orientation. During the summer of 2007, over 89% of all students brought at least one guest with them to orientation. While at orientation, parents and guests participate in a concurrent program during which they have the opportunity to have all of their questions answered about various college resources (Student Financial Services, Academics, Student Life, etc.). We request that you limit your guests to two people because of space constraints. All of the programs are targeted for parents/guardians, and we are unable to provide daycare services for younger siblings.
What if I need to change my orientation reservation?
Contact Jessica Ryan and we will do our best to accommodate a change.
What do I do if I require special accommodations for a medical, physical or disability-related need? Will the college be able to provide for parents/guests who need special assistance?
We will do everything we can to make your visit to Becker College a wonderful experience. For information regarding special needs accommodations for you or your guests, please contact Michelle Fatcheric at 774-354-0462.
What else will happen at Summer Orientation?
Many things! You will get to meet faculty and learn about professors’ expectations in the classroom, experience community life, meet classmates, and make friends. You will understand how to use BC’s technology, learn about Angel and In-Site. Your parents will learn about academics, transitions and financing. Above all, you will have fun!
How long will Orientation last?
Check-in is from 8:30am - 9:15am. The program will begin at 9:30am and run until approximately 3:00pm.
When will I receive my housing and roommate assignment?
Your specific room and roommate assignment will be mailed to you in mid July.
Do I need to take placement testing?
Yes, prior to attending Summer Orientation, please register to take the Accuplacer testing Incoming students to Becker College will complete the Accuplacer published by the College Board as part of new student assessment. The placement testing scores are not part of admission to the college, but an assessment of the student’s current skill level and therefore part of the registration process. The placement test scores help us to register students in appropriate courses. Students are required to take some or all of the placement test must do so one week prior to attending an orientation program.
