Liberal Arts/Elementary Education Course Descriptions
Student teaching (practicum) is a field-based experience in a public elementary school, supervised jointly by a public school teacher and college supervisor. Practicum is full-time throughout a semester (a minimum of 300 hours).
Prior to student teaching EDUC4201/4202 (practicum), a student must successfully complete three pre-practica experiences in a public elementary school. Pre-practica are preparatory, field-based experiences for student teaching. In order to qualify for a placement, the student must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 (“B”) or better in the Accelerated Professional Preparation Courses, must pass all required MTEL exams, and must be in good standing at the College.
As part of the practicum supervision process, the student will participate in a weekly seminar session with the college supervisor. Students are evaluated using a performance assessment tool based on guidelines developed by the Massachusetts Department of Education.
Program Special Requirements
In addition to meeting the Becker College admission requirements, students who wish to graduate from the Becker College Accelerated Bachelor of Arts Degree program in order to pursue teacher licensure in Massachusetts so that they may teach in the public elementary schools must meet the following education program requirements:

- Program requirements in education are subject to modification due to changes as stipulated by Becker College and/or recommendation from the Massachusetts Department of Education.
- Students who are unable to meet these requirements will be counseled into a Liberal Arts degree program with a psychology concentration with no loss of credit.
