Scott Pioli, VP of player personnel for the New England Patriots and three-time NFL Executive of the Year, spoke yesterday at Becker College. Pioli was the special guest speaker at the Becker-Crafts Society reception, held at the home of Becker president, Ken Zirkle and his wife, Chris.
More than 50 guests turned out to hear Pioli discuss the Patriot’s organizational values and recipe for success. “Understand your strengths,” he told the group, “and work hard to build a common vision.” Pioli also shared his personal story of growing up in Washingtonville, N.Y. as the son of working class parents. The first in his family to attend college, Pioli identified with Becker’s mission and lauded the College and the society members for their dedication to educating young people.
Zirkle said of Pioli’s remarks, “That was as moving and heartfelt a presentation on core values as I have ever heard in education. Scott is a credit to the New England Patriots and to the parents who raised him.”
The Becker-Crafts Society is named for E.C.A. Becker, founder of Becker College and Ebenezer Crafts, founder of Leicester Academy. The society is the college’s leadership giving club and comprised of alumni and friends who have made a gift of $1,000 or more to the college. Yesterday’s reception was a celebration in recognition of the society’s investment in the college’s mission, as well as passing the milestone of more than 100 members.
