Nursing Students Awarded Rotary Scholarships

Two Becker College nursing students received $1,000 scholarships from the Rotary Club of Worcester. Michelle Carroll (below right), a fourth semester student, and Wanda Washington (left), a third semester student, were honored at a Rotary luncheon earlier this month.

Both women are non-traditional students, pursuing a new career in nursing. The women, both mothers, thanked the Rotary, saying that the scholarships helped ease their financial burdens, allowing them to focus more on their studies and their families.

The Becker College nursing program, celebrating 25 years of caring, was recently awarded a grant of more than $500,000 from the Health Resources and Services Administration to support nursing education. The college offers associate’s and bachelor’s degree options in nursing and graduates nearly 100 nurses annually.

The Rotary Club of Worcester began holding meetings in 1912. The motto of the Rotary is, "Service above self."
