Makin' It Happen Club Debuts With Event, Oct. 22

Published on Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008

Makin’ It Happen Becker Multicultural Club is the newest club on campus, and presents its first event on Wednesday, Oct. 22, with a "Get Deep and Snap Ya Fingers" Poetry Jam from 7-10 p.m. in Daniels Hall of the Leicester Campus.

Part of new club’s purpose is to raise proceeds to benefit countries that were hit by devastating hurricanes. The money raised on Oct. 22 will be earmarked for efforts in Haiti.

"I wanted to make a difference and give instead of raising money and keeping it (all) for the club," says Sharryn Gedeon, one of the club’s founders. "Why not give and put smiles on people’s faces and have unique events?"

The Becker Multicultural Club will meet four times a month, depending on the events it organizes and type of community service it gets intolved with.

With baked goods and beverages sold at the event, organizers are calling anyone and everyone interested in expressing themselves poetically, and those who just wish to listen, to the event this Wednesday. For Becker College and other students with a college ID, the event is $1. Guests pay $2.
