Becker-Follett Bookstores Donate Books, Supplies to Worcester Schools

Becker College’s Follett Bookstores in Worcester and Leicester celebrate community and sustainability at the grand re-opening of a newly expanded Worcester store and a newly renovated Leicester store by adding up to 1,000 books to donations collected at Becker to the Worcester – The City That Reads book drive. As if that were not enough, the bookstores will also bolster Becker’s longstanding partnership with neighboring Elm Park Community School by donating books and sorely needed supplies.

These partnerships take the spotlight on January 27 at 12:30 p.m. at a grand opening celebration of the newly expanded Becker College Follett Bookstore in the Weller Academic Building, 61 Sever Street, Worcester.

Worcester City Councilor Gary Rosen, Elm Park principal Ruthann Melancon, accompanied by a group of fifth and six grade children, and other local leaders are expected to join Becker College Interim President Dr. Joseph Bascuas and Follett Vice President – Marketing and Sales Mike McEneany to announce these partnerships and to cut the ribbon on the expanded space.

“This is an exciting way to support education in greater Worcester,” says Keith O’Hara, manager of the Becker Bookstores. “Giving back to our neighbors is part of Follett’s commitment to sustainability, to improve human lives and the environment.” The Follett Corporation participates in the Green Press Initiative and promotes literacy by supporting such causes as Reading is Fundamental and Bridges to Asia and contributing books to Hurricane Katrina relief efforts and orphanages in Africa.

The celebration last all week with prizes and special discounts and featuring titles by Becker faculty and alumni and will culminate in a community reception and grand prize drawing in the Leicester store.
