Becker Equestrians Win New England Invitational, Kane Goes on to Nationals
The Hawks equestrian team earned first place at the New England Classic Invitational on April 14, hosted by Dartmouth College in Hanover, N.H. Becker placed ahead of several New England colleges, including two teams from Mount Holyoke College—the 2006 National Champions and the 2007 Zone Champions.
After Becker in first, Mont Holyoke team 1 placed second, Colby-Sawyer College and Williams College tied for third place, Dartmouth team 1 placed fourth, University of New England fifth, Mount Holyoke team 2 sixth. Endicott College, Wesleyan University, Central Connecticut State University and a second Dartmouth team also competed.
Bringing Becker into first place at the Invitational were freshman Jennifer Garner, freshman Katie Diederich and sophomore Stacy Levitre who earned Division wins; senior Mary Omelenchuck who took a Reserve Championship; Freshman Carolyn Kane with a third place score and a fifth place showing from freshman Cassidy Suchoki.
Freshman Carolyn Kane’s April 1 individual walk trot division win at the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Regional Championships, hosted by UMass, qualified her for the Zone Championships competition on April 7 at Mount Holyoke College. The Becker team was awarded third place for the year’s Regional competition with an earned 225 points for the season, 48 points ahead of the fourth place team.
At the Zones Kane was awarded the individual reserve championship, qualifying her to compete at the National Championships, May 3 through 6 at the Big "E" in Springfield, Mass.
