Competition at Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Mass. was as harsh as the weather on Saturday, October 28. The Hawks’ performance gained 27 points, enough to take the second place reserve champion title, behind the host Lyons, with 38. The Hawks are causing quite a stir among the usual top three teams, Mount Holyoke, University of Massachusetts, Amherst (fourth with 21 points) and Smith College (fifth, with 19 points), of Northampton, Mass.

Saturday’s second placing marks the first time Becker has come out on top of the UMass powerhouse team. This season the Becker team has managed to beat each of the expected top three teams in the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association Zone I Region III. The show is also the Hawks’ third-straight reserve championship this season. This is only the fourth time ever for the team, their first came in the 2005-’06 season.

The Hawks are still in third place for the season, with 116 points, behind UMass with 133 points and first place Mount Holyoke with 142 points.

Among the ribbons won by Hawks riders, Senior Lauren Weitz gained 3 points in the competition, qualifying her for the regional championships, with an accumulated 36 points. Freshman Kate Rosenblum earned a second place ribbon, qualifying her to move to the advanced class, with an accumulated 19 points. After only five weeks in the saddle, freshman Katie Diederich took home a fourth place ribbon.
