Becker College has surpassed the $7.5 million goal of its comprehensive campaign, “Transforming Lives Through Education,” reaching $10.1 million in total dollars raised for capital construction, endowment and the annual fund.
“This has been by far the most ambitious fundraising effort Becker College has ever undertaken and we are proud to announce that to date we’ve raised $500,000 for endowed scholarships, $1.7 million for improvements to the Borger Academic Center and other capital projects, $1.5 million for the annual fund, and $6.4 million toward the construction of a new $9.0 million campus center. From the beginning, our trustees, alumni and friends have been committed to making this campaign a success.” said Dean J. Hickey, vice president of advancement.
“This facility will have a tremendous impact on student life,” said President Robert E. Johnson, Ph.D. “We are excited, as it is designed to be an extension of the learning environment, as well as a place where the college can welcome the community.”
A groundbreaking ceremony on the college’s Leicester, Mass. campus for construction of the new 35,727 square foot campus center is scheduled for June 10, 2011. The design of the new structure will complement the existing student center and include a bridge connecting the two buildings. Plans for the campus center include a fitness center, a dining hall and café, space for student government, conference rooms and dedicated study and recreational space.
“Local businesses are excited about the plans for a new campus center at Becker College; this facility will serve our community as a gathering place for meetings and conferences,” said Paul Fontaine, president of Liberty Movers and president of the Leicester Business Association.
“We are glad that Becker College is embarking on this construction project with its neighbors in mind, and we look forward to additional opportunities as our partnership continues to evolve,” said Dianna Provencher, chair, Leicester Board of Selectmen.
The comprehensive campaign has helped raise awareness about and support for Becker College with both the number of donors and the size of the gifts setting new standards. During the campaign, the first ever million dollar gift was made in 2009, and the number of annual fund donors increased by 184%.
