Becker College Names New Hall After Colleen Barrett '64
Becker College will formally dedicate its newest residence hall in honor of 1964 alumna, and president emeritus of Southwest Airlines, Colleen Barrett, on Thursday, September 25 at 4:00 p.m. on the college’s Leicester campus; a reception will follow.
At the reception, Barrett will also receive a key to the City of Worcester from Mayor Konstantina Lukes and honors from the Town of Leicester from Selectman Lee Zagorski. Local elected officials and members of the Becker College Board of Trustees have also been invited.
The only female president of a major airline, Colleen has been named one of the "World’s 100 Most Powerful Women," by Forbes.com (2005, 2004); one of the "50 Most Powerful Women in Business," by Fortune (2003, 2002); and one of the "100 Most Influential Women in Aviation," by Women in Aviation International (WAI) (2003). Since starting with Southwest in 1978, Barrett has also served as secretary of the corporation, vice president of administration and executive vice president in charge of customers.
The new Barrett Hall opened this fall and is home to 42 students. The residence hall features wireless Internet access, two kitchens and laundry rooms, and two lounge and study areas.
