Becker announces first online degree programs for working adults
WORCESTER, MA (June 13, 2008)— Becker College now offers students the option of earning a Bachelor Degree at their own pace and convenience, with the launch of two online degree completion programs. Beginning Fall 2008 students can enroll in either a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration or a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice, both offered online.
“This is truly a 21st-century innovation,” said Raj V. Pathi, Ph.D., Becker College provost. “By putting our business and criminal justice programs online, we’re putting a college degree within reach of people who might not otherwise be able to earn one because of family or work obligations. And it’s a terrific opportunity for them to acquire the skills they need for a more successful career.”
Students can also pursue their studies in the setting of their choice, rather than having to commute to a classroom. At the same time, small, interactive online classes ensure that students are part of a closely knit learning community which provides support and feedback fast. They also enjoy quick access to instructors who are experienced professionals, and 24/7 tech support.
“Our online program is focused on providing students with a great learning experience,” explained Professor of Criminal Justice Bill McCarthy, Ph.D. “We’ve developed a flexible online degree program that will bring out the best in our students while providing them with expertise in the law, forensic science, and high-technology crime investigations.”
Practical experience is essential to the program, according to Professor of Management Jay Lacke. As he put it, “Becker has a long tradition of blending academics with hands-on experience. Just like our on-campus programs, our online programs will emphasize building the practical skills that improve actual job performance. We believe that that’s what 21st-century management education must do.” This strategy also allows students to receive credit for life experience.
Becker College has over 10 years’ experience delivering blended online courses through its Accelerated and Professional Studies Program. Designed specifically for adult learners with prior college credits who can complete their bachelor’s degree within 24 months, Becker is renowned for providing integrative degree programs combining aspects of society, culture, developments in technology, and global issues which sharpen students’ abilities to communicate, think critically, develop leadership skills, and work as a team.
