Becker College was recently ranked number 23 in the world by the Animation Career Review in its list of the “Top 100 Schools for Animation, Gaming, and Design.” Institutions included on the ranking spanned across the country and around the world, including such schools as Bournemouth University in Dorset, England, and the Beijing Film Academy.

Animation Career Review, an online resource for people aspiring for careers in animation and related fields, credits Becker’s “highly regarded” classes, such as Literary Development of Virtual Worlds, Computer Illustration for Game Design, Game Production and Prototyping, and Techniques of Vector and Raster Imaging, as well as highly qualified faculty, internships, and its prime Massachusetts location as considerations in determining the ranking. Becker’s top-10 ranking on The Princeton Review’s list of the top colleges in the U.S. and Canada for game design—which the College has received for the past three years—was also a factor.

“Our animation and game design programs are in good company,” says Becker Director of Design Programs Paul D. Cotnoir, Ph.D. “Recognition from resources such as Animation Career Review and The Princeton Review are very important to us.” The top three are Sheridan College in Canada, California Institute of the Arts, and Gobelins in France. Massachusetts colleges include Massachusetts College of Art and Design at number 4, the Boston University Center for Digital Imaging Art at number 16, and MIT at number 18.

Animation Career Review conducted its analysis using a combination of school reviews, industry-reviewed lists like the Princeton Review, and through a survey of animation industry professionals and recruiters from companies like Pixar and DreamWorks.
