A Taste of Honduras – April 8

Published on Friday, April 1st, 2011

Volunteering never tasted so good. On Friday, April 8 at 6:00 p.m., the Fuller Dining Hall, at 44 West Street, on Becker’s Worcester campus opens its doors to the public for an international dinner that will raise funds for a service and cross-cultural trip to Honduras. Diners will enjoy a happy hour with appetizers and a dinner including mixed greens with sweet potatoes and feta cheese, grilled chicken or fish, rice and beans, Honduran quesadillas, tortillas, fried plantains, torte de tres leche and fresh fruit, coffee and tea. Tickets are $50, $80 for couples and $25 for students and are available at www.becker.edu/servicetrip.

In May, a group of student and faculty volunteers will travel to the Monte Horeb Center, an educational/vocational project for youth and young adults at risk. Volunteers will assist in classrooms, provide tutoring, paint, plan recreational activities, lead workshops, and learn about community life in this part of Latin America. The trip is part of the college’s vision to prepare students to become tomorrow’s leaders and responsible citizens in a global economy, while giving them an appreciation for diverse cultures and peoples.
