Emma F. had a blast at the Summer Game Design Studio at Becker College. She is usually a rather shy and quiet girl, but she interacted and collaborated with her team in the common goal to create an imaginative game, a work of art. Not only was the game animated and exciting, but so was Emma! – Emma’s mom

The Girls STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) Summer Day Camp is an intensive, onsite and hands-on introduction to game programming and design for girls in grades 7 through 12.  The goal of the program is to inspire, lead, encourage, and spark an interest in game programming  and STEAM  subjects for girls.  Each student will be given a mobile device which they will use to create a finished game. All classes are designed and instructed by Game Design faculty at Becker College.  Advisors, current and recent graduates of the Becker Game Development program, will work with the students and assist the instructors.

This residence program introduces high school students to all aspects of game development–including game design, game art and animation, motion capture, programming, sound, testing and production. Students will gain real-world experience by working as a development team that collaborates across all game development disciplines to build original game projects. Using the same curriculum from Becker’s internationally acclaimed video game major, students in the Studio will work side-by-side in a creative cohort that stresses the importance of teamwork and creative collaboration. At the end of the Studio, students will have completed a portion of a fully functional video game and will have gained an understanding of the behind-the-scenes operations of a real game studio.
