A Global Citizenship Speaker Series
Roxanne Krystalli, from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, will give a presentation titled “Women and War: Reflections on Life and Work in Conflict Zones” to promote global citizenship in our community and achieve global learning outcomes.
About the Speaker
Roxanne Krystall is a conflict management specialist with a dual focus on the gender parameter of conflict and the role of storytelling and narrative in peace-building. Roxanne has designed and implemented capacity development initiatives and post-conflict reintegration programs in Egypt, Uganda, Colombia, Sudan, Guatemala, Israel and the Palestinian Territories, and Jordan, among other places, and has worked in affiliation with UN agencies, NGOs, and community-based organizations. Beneficiary populations of Roxanne’s programs worldwide have included parliamentarians, ex-combatants, refugees and internally displaced persons, victims of conflict, humanitarian development personnel, single mothers, teachers, and orphans.
In addition to designing and implementing programs that benefit women affected by war, Roxanne works as a photojournalist documenting the stories of these women and publishing them in portals such as Open Democracy, PolicyMic, Idealist.org, PeacexPeace, The Equals Record, and Gender Across Borders. Prior to her field work, Roxanne worked at a law and public policy firm in Washington, D.C., and at the Harvard Program on Humanitarian and Conflict Research, where she first became acquainted with the laws of war and the potential of capacity development initiatives to improve the impact of humanitarian personnel in conflict zones. She has worked as a trainer with Peace in Focus in Latin America and the Caribbean, and has contributed to the development of the curriculum on multimedia storytelling and conflict management.
Roxanne graduated from Harvard University with a degree in history and literature and is currently a graduate student at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy. She was born and raised in Thessaloniki, Greece, and speaks fluent English, Greek, German, and Spanish, while also learning Arabic and French (sic).
