Cost: $25 per person and $40 per couple

Refreshments: Cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, tapas, dessert, and coffee

On January 12, 2010, a devastating earthquake resulted in widespread destruction and loss of life in Haiti. Britney Gengel, daughter of Becker College alumnus and former trustee, Len Gengel ’84, was among those who perished. Len and his family have made it their mission to honor Britney’s memory by building the Be Like Brit Orphanage.

The Becker College Mission2Go student club is sponsoring its second annual service trip to Grand Goave, Haiti, May 19-26, 2012. Ten Becker College students and three staff members will travel to the Be Like Brit Orphanage, which will nurture and educate 66 children when it opens in 2013. They will spend time at the work site painting, building walls, shoveling, and moving buckets of concrete; establish relationships with the local people with whom they will be staying; and come together as a group each evening to reflect upon what they observed and experienced.

The group is looking forward to their trip in May so they can assist the Gengel family in completing their dream in honor of their daughter. They also hope to establish a partnership with Be Like Brit so Becker College students will be able to return to Haiti and provide support and help in the future.
